Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Review

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was released in November 6, 2015. It was developed by Treyarch and Published by Activision. It is a military FPS set in the future. There is a single player campaign and multiplayer mode as well.
Its best to buy the game when it first comes out as the numbers who play it are greatly reduce after the first month. Especially if you live in Country with small populations. It seems you cannot play with players from another country. If you’re not skilled at playing this type of game it will get boring fast as you die all the time. Also the kill cams are annoying each time but you can skip them by pushing the F button. What also annoys me is how long you have to wait between the end of the last game and the beginning of the next game.
The game has some good points as well. The levels are designed really well and the sound helps when you are wearing a headset, making it easier to know where the enemy is shooting from. The graphics are very good also with all the levels colourful and in high detail. Also like most COD games it does not give the computer a hard workout.
Players can now wall-run, power slide, and boost jump. The boost jumps functions similarly to the exo-jumps from Advanced Warfare. 10 points are used for picking Guns, Lethals, Tacticals, Attachments, Perks, and Wildcards. There are nine characters, called specialists. They each have there own special ability and weapon. Each weapon has five different stats: Damage, Range, Fire Rate and Accuracy. Its best to choose a gun with high damage if you are fighting up close and high accuracy if you are shooting into the distance.
Prestige Mode allows players to completely reset their ranks and unlocks so they can go through the levelling up experience again. You prestige after level 55. This game was okay to prestige as I played it when it was new and there were plenty of game modes and players. There are 10 prestige levels in total and the 11th level being a master prestige level.
There are still perks, score streaks, supply drops and this time crypto keys to unlock guns and emblems etc. The game modes remain similar to the other games such as, team deathmatch, domination, free for all and uplink to name a few.
The game play is lots of fun if you are on a winning streak. It is always fast action and no time to stand still as players are moving all the time to find you. There are markers on the mini map to give you a helping hand where the gunfire is coming from. The boost jumps are fun to move around with although they do give away your position. When the game was new the lesser played game modes were lots of fun like uplink and kill confirmed.
All in all it’s a fun multiplayer game if you want to jump in and play for a short period of time then jump out and do other things.

Crysis 3 Myltiplayer Review

Crysis 3 was a first-person shooter video game from 2012. It has both a single player campaign and a multiplayer part to the game. Here I will be reviewing the multiplayer game mode of Crysis 3.

The main difference I found in Crysis 3 compared to other multiplayer shooters are the stunning graphics. The Crysis game engine looks stunning indoors and outdoors. Another difference is you have a suit which you can change from armour to stealth mode. These modes only last for a few seconds before your suit needs to be recharged over time. The armour mode works well in a fight and the stealth mode works the best when you stay hidden. If you get attacked in stealth mode, you won’t survive.

There are 8 game modes to choose from: Free for all, team deathmatch, hunter, crash site, spears, capture the relay, extraction and assault. The most popular game mode is team deathmatch and you will be lucky to find people playing in other game modes. There are many weapons to choose from and weapons have modifications which can be performed during gameplay. Most of these weapons must be unlocked by ranking up. As you rank up you unlock more weapons and abilities. There is a melee attack that can be performed as well but it takes more than one hit to take down an enemy.

The games are a good length and the wait between maps is not too long. There seems to be enough people play this online to form matches and the game play is quite fast paced. There is also a good variety of maps. The voice over acting was also quite well done as well. One example would be the announcer telling you from time to time where a group of enemies are located.

I give it 7/10

Call of Duty Black OPS II Multiplayer Review

Call of Duty Black OPS II was published by Activision and developed by Treyarch. Released in 2012 Black OPS II multiplayer mode follows the same path as other Call of Duty multiplayer games. There is a leveling system where you progress to level 55 then prestige. When you try to play this game online you will find most people play team deathmatch and domination. It will be hard to find anyone playing other game modes. The maps are fun except when everybody decides to play on the same map over and over again.

I like the movement in the game. It seems fast and with the perk to run for longer it can make the game more fun if you like to run everywhere. I liked to use the light machine guns of the assault rifles with a good range. If you get into a team that works together it can be a lot of fun. The matches don't last too long and the waiting period between games is not too long either.

The graphics are pretty good for the age of the game and there is an option to record matches which I did not use. Out of the older Call of Duty games I probably played this the most mainly because of the maps and there were other people to play with. I also never had a problem with hacked lobbies or hacking in general. The game still runs good on windows 10 and should be good for a few years yet.

Battlefield 4 Multiplayer Review

Battlefield 4 was made by EA and DICE. It was released in 2013. The multiplayer mode of Battlefield 4 has large scale maps with up to 64 players. Your team makes up one of three countries. The USA, China and Russia. There are a number of game modes to choose from. These are: Conquest, Domination, Defuse, Obliteration, Rush, Squad Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. The vehicles you can control include tanks and helicopters.  You can choose your class when you begin and it depends on your play style. Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon class. I liked the recon class in Battlefield 4 as you could not normally cover much distance on the ground without being shot by a helicopter or something so hiding was the best option. The maps are huge with many players and the games take a long time to finish. Be prepared to be sitting down for over half an hour for just one game. When you load the game you have to start from a web page. This does not launch the game all the time and is a bit annoying.

The graphics are still pleasing even though the game is getting a bit old. Still its a very popular game and you wont have any trouble finding players online. Its a bit more complicated than your generic Team Deathmatch style shooter. If you have the time and the patience I would recommend to give it a go.

Call of Duty Ghosts Multiplayer Review

A 2013 Call of Duty game, Ghosts was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision.

Ghosts multiplayer mode differs from other Call of Duty games in the way you prestige. Most Call of Duty games you prestige by getting to the highest level you can get, then you have the option to reset everything or continue on without leveling up any more. In Call of Duty Ghosts you choose a character and level up until you can unlock a new character and start again. For some reason I did not enjoy this leveling up much. Kill confirmed was my favorite game mode where you shoot a player then collect their dog tag for extra points. Most of the games are in team deathmatch but not many people play any more. The only game mode you will be able to play today is team deathmatch if you are lucky otherwise you just get the dialog "no games found". The maps are good and so are the graphics. Some maps are really good for shotguns, especially the Strikezone map mode. Other maps are more open and ideal for snipers. The points system is the same as other COD games. One difference is that instead of unlocking a UAV when your kill streak reaches a certain level, you unlock a dog which roams around nearby and takes out enemy players for you. All the weapons are much the same as previous games.

There was a separate offshoot game type called squads. This can be played alone, with friends and other players. I was only able to play this alone as there was no one else playing this game type. You form two squads of characters. I was playing alone so I was against bots. The squad you choose plays other squads and their points are tallied as you win matches.

All in all it was a good robust multiplayer game and I enjoyed it while the players were there but the lack of online players has affected the overall appeal of the game. More people play Modern Warfare 2 and Black OPS 2 than they play this.

I give it 6.9/10

Team Fortress 2 Review

Team Fortress 2 is a multiplayer first-person shooter made by Valve in 2007. Players form two teams and fight it out in a range of missions and maps. There are nine characters to choose from each with their own attributes. The characters are as follows: Engineer, Spy, Soldier, Heavy, Pyro, Medic, Demoman, Scout and Sniper. It depends on how you want to play as to which character you choose. For example, If you like to stand and shoot you would choose the heavy. If you like to pick them off at a distance you would choose the sniper. The scout can run fast and the medic can heal other players in your team.

There are different game modes to choose from. Including capture the flag, control point, king of the hill, payload and a new one called Mann vs Machine.

This game is almost ten years old but a lot of people still play. You have a limited amount of health. When your health runs out you respawn depending on the game mode. Ammo and health can also be collected at various locations around the map. The character you choose depends on the weapons available. For example the heavy has a rail gun and shot gun. The engineer has a grenade launcher and the soldier has a rocket launcher. Each character has at least two weapons to choose from.

The game is a bit outdated in the graphics department but there is still fun to be had in the game play. You level up as you win and score points. Back when it was released it won high praise and I think it was quite an original first-person shooter. The style of the game is quite cartoon like and the voice over presentation is also well done like when it says "your control point is being captured". I had the most fun in this game with the heavy as they are the hardest to kill. With a medic healing him to uber health they are almost unstoppable.

I give it 7/10

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Review

Released in 2011, Infinity Wards Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer is still played today. At the time of writing this, there is only people playing in team death match. I was only able to play this recently and was unable to play kill confirmed or domination.

The maps are mostly war zones and quite large with many places to attack but not many places to hide. The leveling system is basically the same through the call of duty games. You start at level 1 with a few weapons. As you win matches and score points you level up unlocking perks, weapons and killstreaks. Its much harder to level up only playing one game mode and some games you join have "hacked lobbys" which means you have to disconnect and try again. A hacked lobby is when there is an unfair advantage like unlimited ammo or a players health unable to be damaged. When there is not many people online sometimes it is hard to avoid this. The players mostly act as a team and the game is not too hard. Its more a game of quick reaction time. When you see an enemy and they see you there is only milliseconds between who gets the score. This can be annoying for people with a slow internet connection as you can be not quite quick enough and die all the time. That's probably why most of the newer Call of Duty games have servers that are segregated by country so its more even. The only problem is that if you live in a country with not many players, there are no games found and you cant play. ( Like Call of Duty Advanced Warfare).

The graphics are a slight improvement from Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer mode. There are more objects in the maps like live chickens, fruit stands and all sorts of junk scattered about which has no effect on game play other than to distract you.

All in all its a good game to play for a time. If you can handle the hacked lobbies. I did not rate it as good as Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer mode because of the fewer players and being unable to play game modes like kill confirmed and domination.

I give it 7.6/10

Titanfall Review

Titanfall is a first-person multiplayer game released in 2014. Once you click on "play Titanfall" the game automatically connects you to a match to play against others online. There are a few different game modes but most people play the game mode attrition. This mode is similar to team death match where you have to compete in a team and fight against the other team until time runs out or the score is reached. The game differs from other shooters in that you can score points from shooting computer controlled bots "or grunts". The weapons vary from pistols to rocket launchers. There is a pistol called a smart pistol that aims automatically and is best for shooting grunts as they do not move around as much as a real player.

During the game you can call for your titan which is dropped from the sky. This mechanized robot has a suit of armor and packs some heavy weapons. Once you step in to the titan you control it. You can choose to fight other titans or look for pilots to shoot. You can also order your titan to be in guard mode or follow mode. The game is fast moving and you will be running most of the time. You can run on the side of walls and thrust jump. There is a leveling system at work and as you level up you can unlock more load-outs for your pilot and titan. At the end of each game the loosing team has the chance to evacuate by a drop ship. I have never made it to a drop ship as I normally get shot before I get there or the ship gets destroyed by enemy Titans.

The game was developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by EA. The graphics look good on high detail and there are still players who play this game online. ( This may not be for much longer as Titanfall 2 was just released). There is no single player campaign for this game.

I give it 7/10

Far Cry 3 Multiplayer Review

Far Cry 3 has a fairly decent multiplayer mode. It has the usual game modes such as team deathmatch and domination. The good thing about the game is that although not many people play the multiplayer, they mostly play mixed battle mode on top of the list so you get some variety without having to play team deathmatch all the time. Compared to other first-person multiplayer games the visuals are stunning and most of the maps are outdoors and detail of the trees and vegetation really do it justice. To play on the highest detail you need some relatively new hardware.

To progress in the game you earn XP points and level up. Every time you kill a player, revive a player or capture an area you gain experience points. The more you earn the more weapons and items you can unlock. You can customize the weapon load out at the begining of each game depending on your style. When you get injured you can heal your self once. When you go down you can be revived in a short period of time, only once.

One way the game differs from other multiplayer games is the game mode fire storm. In this mode you have to set fire to two areas as one time. The other team has to fight you and put out the fires by getting to a radio tower and calling for support.

Overall not many people play or even know Far Cry 3 has a multiplayer mode. But if you like highly detailed out door environments in first person shooters I would give it a go. I wouldn't recommend to buy the game just for the multiplayer aspect though.

I give it 7.5/10

Rocket League Review

Rocket League is a soccer game with cars. Also called Soccar it was developed and published by Psyonix. Released in 2015 Rocket League is one of the most played multiplayer games on PC. The objective of the game is to hit the ball into the other teams goal with your car. The team with the most goals when the time runs out, wins. There is different game modes you can play. One VS one, Two VS two, three and four. Also there is a hockey game mode where instead of a ball there is a hockey puck. Another game mode I will mention is like basket ball where the ball gets knocked into a hoop. The most common game mode is three VS three. The most fun is to be had in online mode but there is also a career mode where you can go to learn the fundamentals of the game.

During the game you will win matches, score goals, centre balls, set up goals and save goals. All these things contribute to ranking up in level and unlocking decals and accessories for your vehicle. There are many vehicles to choose from as well as tires and hats and flags. These aesthetic changes do not affect the cars performance as it is a level playing field. The game is best played with a controller. The controls are normal controls for a driving game with a hand brake, afterburner, accelerator, brake, jump and a button to follow where the ball is.

Once you get used to the controls you will be jumping, sliding and speeding the ball into the other teams goal. When a goal is scored all cars in the immediate area are thrown into the air away from the goal. These special effects are what makes the game so exciting to play. The stadiums are plenty and the music and atmosphere are great.

The game also lets you create a party where you can join with your friends and play. There is a split screen mode for two local players but you need two controllers connected and I have not tested that. You don't need a fast computer to run the game but you do need an internet connection.

This is one of the most fun multiplayer games I have played.

I give it 9.7/10

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Review

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer mode is still popular years after its release in 2009. Its full of action, the maps are good and there is still lots of players so you can choose a variety of game modes like domination and capture the flag but like all call of duty games the most players are in team deathmatch. In the game you progress and rank up as you play the game, unlocking new weapons and perks. The game has a class system with custom classes to choose from, allowing you to choose your primary and secondary weapons. The game is the most fun when you are constantly on the move. Staying in one spot for a few seconds will reduce your chances of survival as most players are moving around the map all the time. Because of the random nature of the matchmaking there is not real team tactics as most people do there own thing which can be frustrating at times especially in domination. Your experience might differ each time you play as you are playing against other people and everybody is different. If you are getting beaten a lot then its a good idea to leave the game and hope the matchmaking will bring you into a more even playing-field.

The graphics are a bit outdated now but its not as important in a multiplayer game as you are mainly concerned with your accuracy and reflexes, not how beautiful the trees and building look.

The game will run on older hardware and still runs on windows 10 with newer hardware.

Overall still a good game, lots of people still play and there is plenty of fun to be had.

I give it 8/10
